"SIR JOSEPH BAZALGETTE - VICTORIA'S FORGOTTEN ENGINEER"
Between 1859 and 1875 Sir Joseph Bazalgette (1819-81) designed and constructed the system of drains, sewers and pumping stations which ended the scourges of cholera and typhoid and which keep the Thames and the capital clean to this day. STEPHEN HALLIDAY'S illustrated talk describes this massive project and Bazalgette's other work and suggests that he was an engineer of the first rank, comparable with I.K. Brunel and George Stephenson.
