"A PHOENIX FROM THE ASHES"
JOANNE BROOKS, Education Director from the World Naval Base in Chatham, charts the history of Chatham Dockyard in Kent, from its beginnings in the reign of Henry VIII to the present day. There will be an opportunity to consider the effect of the Industrial Revolution on the Dockyard and also the role of the Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust in turning "World Naval Base" into a visitor attraction for the 21st Century.

R. J. CAUSEBROOK, a member of the New River Action Group, will describe the water supply problems in the late 16th century and the actions which led to the building of the New River from Hertford to London. The river as it is today will be illustrated and details amplified to show its present role as an essential part of London's water supply and its position relative to the London Ring Main.
