"THE BATTLE FOR THE FENS"
MIKE PETTY, who lives in the fens, will take us through the history of fenland drainage from the 1600s to the present day, the continuing struggle to keep the fenlands dry, dealing with falling land levels, the management of the rivers and flood control in modern times.

"FROM BEANS TO BARS - THE HISTORY OF COCOA AND CHOCOLATE CONFECTIONERY MANUFACTURE"
MIKE JOHNSON, who retired as senior chocolate process engineer for Mars Confectionery, tracks the development of chocolate from the discovery of cocoa. His talk covers the processes which convert the raw materials into chocolate, that most popular of all confections.

For the railway enthusiasts among us, ALLAN WILMOT will be giving us a specially selected programme of railway films covering the past glories of steam and the preserved steam railways now in existence.

An informal evening when we partake of food and drink and members show slides and photos taken during the year, or interesting items of historical interest. The results of the photo competition will be announced and awards made.

"Healthy Happy Workers are the World's Best" - the development of Letchworth Garden City and its industry, 1903 to 2001. This talk is given by ROBERT LANCASTER, the Curator of the First Garden City Heritage Museum at Letchworth.

RICHARD FILMER, the author of the 'Shire' book on hops and hop picking, will give an illustrated presentation examining the history' of hop culture, describing the traditional tools of the trades, the oasts, the growers, the pickers and all those whose versatile skills made the British hop industry a success.

"CARDINGTON AND ITS AIRSHIPS".
This talk by GROUP CAPTAIN GARTH will give a brief resume of the principles of airship flight, will cover German airships before World War I, the use of airships by both sides during that war, development of the giant airships in the inter-war years, ending with a description of the exciting high-tech developments currently taking place.
